Primary Four

Welcome to our Primary Four Page!

We have three Primary Four classes in Ballyholme Primary School.

Mrs McFerran (Monday and Tuesday) and Mrs McCullough (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) are in Room 10. Miss Adamson is in Room 11. Mrs Kennedy is in Room 12. Throughout the year we enjoy learning new skills in Literacy and Numeracy aswell as developing our ability to self-manage and work with others.

Topic Work

Mighty Me

The children love to explore their senses through a range of activities in ABL (Activity Based Learning).  The children will be tasting, smelling, touching, hearing and seeing a variety of fantastic things.  It would be wonderful if the children had any related posters or books to bring in; we would love to see them!

Grand Designs

In Primary Four we will be exploring the materials used to build houses and research different types of houses.  During ABL the children will visit our Estate Agents and discover the people involved in the planning of and building of a house.  We are also keen to welcome visitors who have any interests or expertise in relation to building a house.

World War 2

The children are always extremely keen to start the War topic. Through ABL the children will explore what it would be like to be an evacuee, rationing, and what an air raid shelter looked like and was made of. Visitors are welcome to come and talk to the children about their personal or family war memories. Please talk to your child's teacher!

Minibeasts

Our final topic of Primary Four is Minibeasts. Throughout our Minibeasts topic we will hunt for minibeasts, identify them and even create a magic minibeast potion!  Through ABL the children will explore why minibeasts live in certain places.  The children will be given the opportunity to make an imaginary minibeast using a range of interesting materials and research different minibeasts in group work.

Music

All Primary Four classes have music once per week in our Music room.  Please remember to keep your recorder and music book in your school bag.

Outdoor PE

In addition to Indoor PE (taught by our PE specialist) the children have the opportunity to improve their skills in skipping, football, tennis and in the adventure playground.
